But also we need groups, clubs, societies, schools, bands in fact anyone willing to take part in our walking street parade through the Town on Saturday May 19th.
We would like the Pubs, Clubs and Groups of people [aged 16 and over] to take part in our KataKanu Boat races on Sunday May 20th, no experience is necessary, you just need to have a Team of five people per boat. All safety equipment is provided and you can help raise funds for our nominated charities.
This year’s event include a walking parade, a river parade, boat racing, fairground entertainment, and music and stalls around the streets. We hope to be able to raise a fantastic amount to donate to our Charities. In 2017, we were able to present cheques of £700 each to Macmillan Cancer Research, The Town Mayor’s Charities, the Avon Navigation Trust and Mitton Manor pre-school. Smaller donations were also made to the Dogs Trust, Maritime Volunteer Service and Tewkesbury Town Colts.
For 2018, the Saturday will see the Walking parade through the town centre with a theme of “Royal Wedding” we hope to see lots of entrants in fancy dress and with music along the way. Sunday will see the new KataKanu Boat races in the morning and River Parade themed on “Royal Regatta” in the afternoon.
Tewkesbury’s BIG Weekend is organised by a small group of like minded individuals who came together to provide a Festival that is mainly free or good value for the good people of Tewkesbury and surrounding area. It stimulates business for the Town and brings the Riverside and Town together. This year we are producing a different walk around some of our famous “Alleyways” to link the two. This was a great success in 2017 and we will be looking to expand this in 2018
As previous, all funds raised will be going to Charity, The Tewkesbury Town Mayor’s Charities, Macmillan Cancer Research, the Avon Navigation Trust and our guest charity Tewkesbury Sea Cadets. We will be engaging with the local community, schools and community groups and the event will be widely publicised in the local media, as well as through social media on Facebook and Twitter, and through our website. www.tewkesburybigweekend.co.uk
